DTF Heat Press Settings: Temperature, Time and Pressure
Getting your heat press settings right is the key to DTF transfers that look great and last. Here are the settings we recommend for transfers printed by Arjin.
Recommended settings
| Temperature | 300-320°F (150-160°C) |
| Pressure | Medium |
| Time | 10-15 seconds |
| Peel | Let cool about 10 seconds, then peel slowly |
| Finish press | Optional 5 seconds with parchment paper |
| First wash | Wait 24 hours |
Why each setting matters
Temperature: the adhesive powder on a DTF transfer melts and bonds to the fabric. Too cool and it will not stick; too hot can scorch delicate fabrics.
Pressure: pressure pushes the adhesive into the fibers. Most issues with edges lifting come from too little pressure, especially on seams, zippers or thick hoodies.
Time: 10-15 seconds is enough for the adhesive to bond. Longer is not always better.
Fabric tips
- Cotton and cotton blends: use the standard settings above.
- Polyester and performance fabrics: stay at the lower end of the temperature range and do a test press. Some polyester can show press marks or dye migration at high heat.
- Hoodies and thick garments: use a pressing pillow or pad so pressure stays even around seams and pockets.
Always do a test press
Heat press displays are not always accurate, and every machine is different. Press one transfer on a scrap garment first and adjust if needed.
